Job # 24104          Senior Mechanical R&D Technician

Location: Natick, MA

Duration:  6  months +

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for assisting in the development, introduction and validation of new products, processes, product accessories and product upgrades required by the company to meet strategic goals and objectives.        

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the development of new plastics disposable products and processes to meet product specification requirements; includes specifying materials, developing processes and prototype assembly.
  • Communicate with outside vendors and subcontractors to acquire parts and/or components.
  • Transition products from R&D into Manufacturing; includes training of manufacturing personnel and finalization of documentation.
  • Assist in creation of product and process documentation, including component and raw material specifications, assembly drawings, process sheets and route sheets.
  • Assist in development of assembly equipment; includes generation of sketches and/or drawings and assembly of equipment.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing personnel.        
  • Manage and prioritize assigned tasks in such a way to most effectively meet project or other deadlines.
  • Ability to make product design decisions based on factors such as cost, function, ease of assembly, test data results and other relevant factors.
  • Write and obtain approval of test protocols.
  • Oversee and/or test product per approved protocols; includes recording and summarizing results.
  • Ensure compliance to Design Control requirements and other company policies.
  • Assist in the investigation and evaluation of product failures and complaints.
  • Perform other engineering tasks as required

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for interaction both within and outside the company.
  • Knowledge of FDA and MDD regulations a plus.
  • Strong lab notebook recording skills (title, description, data, discussion, conclusion, etc.).  Need to clearly document all aspects of prototypes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and general MS Office file navigation required. Experience with MS Project a plus.
  • Four+ years experience developing and supporting plastic disposable medical products, including bonding and welding of plastic components.
  • Associates degree in Mechanical, Plastics or related Engineering, or equivalent knowledge based upon experience.
  • Good hands-on mechanical ability with a basic use of machine tools.
